styriarte 2026: A Day with Joseph Haydn
Masterpieces and Tales of Mischief
Where better to enjoy Haydn’s string quartets in a more festive, bright and summery setting than at Eggenberg Palace? Two young, award-winning string quartets from Salzburg and Frankfurt will present a full day of Haydn’s greatest masterpieces for four strings. In the Planetensaal, they will let the bright light of his humour and humanity shine through. To accompany this, Gregor Seberg will read from the interviews that the painter Albert Christoph Dies conducted with the elderly Haydn in Vienna during all three performances – hair-raising tales of mischief from his youth and touching memories of the laughter of Maria Theresa.
Programme:
- 11 am: Haydn! String Quartets in B flat, Op. 76/4, ‘The Sunrise’ (JQ) and in F minor, Op. 55/2, ‘The Razor’ (AQ)
- 4 pm: Haydn!! String Quartets in C, Op. 76/3, “Emperor Quartet” (AQ) and in G, Op. 77/1 (JQ)
- 7 pm: Haydn!!! String Quartets in D minor, Op. 76/2, “Quintet Quartet” (AQ) and in G, Op. 33/5 (JQ)
