A play of light and shadow
For more than 70 years, this music has resounded throughout Europe to herald the Eurovision broadcasts: the opening bars of Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Te Deum. The festive sounds that united the entire continent long before there was a European Parliament are placed at the heart of the magnificent Styriarte finale by the European musician Jordi Savall. Between the sombre sound of Delalande’s ‘De profundis’ and the dazzling brightness of Charpentier’s Te Deum, the magician of early music unfolds a breathtaking interplay of light and shadow.
