styriarte 2026: Mozart Requiem
“And may eternal light shine upon them.”
Mozart’s Requiem has brought comfort in life and faith to countless people, even though he was unable to complete it before his own death. Michael Hofstetter returns to the standard completion by Mozart’s pupil Süßmayr in the Baroque church in Stainz, and he has Gregorian chants intoned between the movements. Against the golden backdrop of the pure Middle Ages, Mozart’s struggle with death seems all the more dramatic.
