Andräkirche
St. Andrä Church in Graz looks back on a long history: built by the Dominicans in the early 17th century and consecrated in 1635, it was constructed as a late-Gothic, three-nave hall church – modelled on the parish church in Herrengasse. It was not until over a century later that it was given its Baroque interior.
Today, the church is breaking new ground: since 1999, it has deliberately provided a space for contemporary art. Temporary and permanent works enter into an exciting dialogue with the sacred space. The façade, designed by Gustav Troger in 2010, also reflects this ambition – a network of concepts links the everyday with the spiritual and invites passers-by to pause for a moment.
The Andräkirche is thus not merely a historic building, but a vibrant meeting place that attracts people from all over the world.
