Picknick for One – Surrealist Circus Theatre with Live Music at Kristallwerk
The production humorously combines physical theatre, acrobatics, dance, (foot) juggling, object manipulation and live music. Three circus artists and a musician tell a surrealist story about loneliness, longing and identity without words.
One woman. One picnic. One ending.
Loneliness drives the neurotic protagonist to a desperate act. She finds herself trapped in a labyrinth of surreal events. Is it tragic or comic? Lost in the inexplicable logic of dreams, hopes and fears merge.
A transgender ballerina doll and a genderless, wobbly creature confront her with her inner contradictions. She desires, dances with, fights, trains and ignores the two tricksters in an attempt to regain control of the situation. Yet she only becomes more hopelessly entangled in a strange ménage à trois. Perhaps these uncanny dream figures seem more familiar than the bleak and cold reality.
Where does escaping into our own thoughts lead us?
Are we made of the same stuff as our dreams?
